Grey, it's not actually dementia. Her memory loss, and the hallucinations, are both side effects of having a toxic level of lithium in her system. She has been on lithium based meds for something similar to bipolar disorder for many years, and they recently found that she was taking in more lithium than she was meant to.
The cruel irony is that when all this started, she was due at the hospital to have her levels checked. She went to the hospital that day, but not for herself - my dad hurt his back that day and needed treatment, meaning she missed her appointment

They're doing regular blood tests, and only when her lithium levels are right again, will she be discharged; by which point the doctors are hopeful that the memory loss and hallucinations should stop, so that's something I guess...
