well here's an update.
Had surgery ont he 25th, came home this past sunday. Dr's think they may have removed it all, but i still have 6-8 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation to go through. Due to the swelling, they had to put a trach in, which sucks, but at least im still alive. The whole family has been very supportive and helpful. I still have a tongue, thank the gods, and they didnt need to use my pectoral muscle to rebuild it. So while the surgery was a tad less evasive, it was still pretty harsh.
I have been learning to talk with the trach for the past 2 days, lets just say its not all that easy. I was finally able to swallow something yesterday.... pepsi.... first thing ive tasted since the 20th of january and let me tell you, it was heaven. people often take there sense of taste for granted, but you really do miss it when its gone. Since then I've had pineapple orange juice from welch's which is also delightful.
Each day gets a little better, and i keep moving forward. I know i have some huge potholes in the road in front of me, but I'm confident I'll make it through.
Oh... and something new.... I got my Medicinal Marijuana card. While I'm not a smoker, I can get a butter made from the THC extract and bake with it..... ohhhh brownies here i come!
