Technically an S&M song, but its just not very good.

Lyrically, Its very straightforward, I just don't agree that pain is best without love. Plus I hate the soprano that echo's everytime he sings the word pain in the refrain.

Musically its pretty much three chords over and over again. I know power chords are a staple of heavy metal, but this is just pure laziness on the writer's part. Not even a good guitar solo. And don't get me started on the heavily processed "wooden spoon hitting mashed potatos" that is a drum-set filtered through Pro Tools*

* Basically my stance is that multi-track recordings and digital mixing and engineering software are the worst things to happen to recorded music, especially drums ... Pro Tools hate drums.

Don't believe me? Go to the local guitar superstore and listen to somebody bang-out a few notes on a drum kit. Then go to the CD store and try to find anything that sounds remotely like what a real drum kit sounds like (if you've never heard a drummer in RL it does not produce the "fwhump" noise that music engineers seem to think it does).

Pantera - 'Becoming'

This might sound an unusual suggestion, but it's one my master brought up with me a very long time ago, and for some reason we never discussed it again after that. Looking at the lyrics, it seems to describe us perfectly, and he had an idea in mind where we would have that song playing, and he would give me a lashing with his flogger for each of the many guitar squeals that punctuates the song throughout.
