Original videotape versions of Motel California credit Mark Steele as the director, and show William Higgins as having written the script as well as being a consultant. This remastered copy from 2008 makes some changes to the film, while leaving the five sex scenes at least mostly intact. First it lists the film title as William Higgins' Motel Calífornía (with stylized accents over the I's in California), as well as indicating that Higgins both wrote and directed the film himself.
