It’s really tough to watch your going through hell. You know that the pain they’re experiencing is likely to pass soon enough, but, at the same time, it’s impossible to forget the profound intensity of life at that age.
Maxx had been moping around for quite a while. He was obviously grappling with something pretty major and I knew the time had come for me to see if he wanted to open up about what was going on.
I sat him down next to me on the couch and the poor boy looked utterly broken. All I could think to do was shower him with love, so I pulled him into my arms and kissed his forehead tenderly and lovingly. Seeing him so vulnerable was incredibly triggering. I suddenly felt an overwhelming desire to protect the boy which was coupled with a rush of intense love for him.
