When we connect to the significance of sex, what different acts mean to us, we connect to the essence of who we are. Inside all of us, there are many roads, many destinations. When we take a journey with a sex partner, we stop time, we create an embodied ritual. We invite each other into our inner worlds and literally take a journey through each other's psyches. Without meaning, it is merely friction. This has been the road traveled by many gay and queer men before our time - always looking for a safe place to go. Travel was necessary, even in small stints to find somewhere, often between men who didn't even know each other before, an interplay between safety and danger. These men traveled "out there" somewhere to lay down the vigilance he upholds in his daily life. There is an inherent danger in this, too. In the gay world, it doesn't involve boats or Caribbean islands. Gay cruising is the act of searching for a sex partner - usually of the anonymous, one-time variety - in public. Gay cruising is a secret language. It's a dance of discretion. It's an intoxicating mix of fear, anticipation and excitement that makes your heart race - and your cock hard. Today's Himerostv video is titled The Road Travelled (check out the free preview) and features Remy Cruze and Hunter Graham. It's a fantasy sequence set sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s that features two gay men on the prowl. They're looking for sex, and they find it. As the film states: This has been the road traveled by many gay and queer men before our time - always looking for a safe place to go. Travel was necessary - and sometimes still is - to find somewhere - anywhere - to fuck. We fuck because it is an expression of who we are - and we dance with the danger of being found out because we have no choice but to live our deepest truths... even if it's in the shadows. This interplay of self expression, danger and eroticism is in our sap. Typing these words, I can sense it. Catching the eyes of another gay man, I can feel it. Walking into a gym locker room, I can smell it. And sucking the cock of a man who I'll never see again, I can taste it. But cruising is becoming a lost art. On one hand, that's a good thing. Society has evolved and many gay men feel empowered to live their lives more openly. And the internet has transformed our ability to find one another. But, on the other hand, as we sit alone while browsing Grindr, Scruff and Tinder - viewing all these pictures and torsos trapped inside gridded boxes - it seems that technology may have had the opposite effect; we're more connected, and yet further apart. Watching The Road Travelled has made me nostalgic for sometime simpler and more primal. And I hope that it does for you, too.
