Honestly, no. Sex was a taboo subject living with my parents, talking about it was simply avoided at all costs. I gave up on religion before puberty and so never had any of those conversations with clergypersons.

Your intent seems good (if a bit Southern Baptist) but we have no idea what will happen when you put your principals to practice. Whether you turn-out to be a saint or a tyrant will depend entirely on what choices you make as you make them.

Also, what is an abusive slave? I can easily understand an abusive Master/Mistress, but I can't understand how to recognize an abusive slave.

BTW, what did you mean by "a bit Southern Baptist"? If you're referring to my branch of Christianity, we are no where near being considered Southern Baptist...Reformed Baptists are significantly different in theology and practice. Just FYI.

I have no idea what theology you ascribe to. I was joking that southerners (many of whom are baptists, but you could substitute LDS or any of 100 other faiths) still hold the medieval practice of considering wives to be property. "Barefoot & pregnant" used to be the expression.

My opinion isn't really anti-baptist (you can worship zombies, trees, or unicorns if you want) so much as my perceived superiority to "Southern-ness". They museum where cavemen ride dinosaurs for the love of butter.

For many southerners the war was not about slavery, but about federal verses state control. slavery just happened to be the straw...

The primary cause was economics (and has been the catalyst for most wars). When alternative-history teachers say it was state v. federal, what they really mean is "who is going to spend the money". If the confederates won the war we would likely have a government closer to feudalism (a monarchy would have been unlikely).

Slavery was simply the industrial engine of the south. It wasn't then considered a 'human rights issue' like we would think today (At the time even Irish/Scottish were not officially "white" people). Banning slavery in 1862 would not be dissimilar to the federal government banning the use of gasoline in 2010: Complete economic and industrial ruin. This is why the emancipation proclamation was made after the war was already in effect: Destroying the economic ability of aggressors will always win a war.
