Marina is in town from England to visit her close friend Angel who lives in the high desert. The two have been out on the town partying on this freezing Halloween night. Unfortunately, there weren't any hot guys at the party and everyone there was, apparently, lame. So the two head out into the chilly night in search of something on a grander scale. Angel knows of an old abandoned farm house which is supposedly . A place where they can sleep for the night and reveal in the sense of fear that the old property yields on such a hallowed night. ?, Marina asks. According to local legend an old curmudgeon lived on the property with a young girlfriend. This old guy kept her tied up in the basement all the time, made her do sexual favors for him, treat her like a slave. It turns out that the women in the community found out about this, sneaked onto the old guy's property and captured him, tied him up and tortured him for days --just like he did to his slave girl. Then they him. Now his ghost the old property and Angel is anxious to find out if all of this is true.
It takes a bit of talking for Angel to get Marina to agree to this harebrained plan. The trip into the old property is a long one. Some two miles down a dirt "road" that only a 4X4 could navigate. Coupled with the dark of night, temperatures in the 20s and then another two mile walk in just to get to the old place, Marina has some serious misgivings. But Angel is persistent and soon they find themselves heading down the darkened dirt road to where the gate blocks any further motor travel. At the gate they disembark, grab their sleeping bags, flashlights and climb the gate over to the other side. Angel bounds over the gate with aplomb. Marina has to hike her skirt up, have Angel hold her sleeping bag and loses her flashlight in the process. City girl. At this point they have a two mile walk in to the property. As they make their way down the path we have a vision of the old man, the one, his ghost is in the basement ritualizing his trophies, his playthings. The girls continue to make their way into the property. Climbing barbed wire fences, slipping down the uneven, rocky slope and growing antagonistic with one another as they continue in. And we continue to see visions of the old man. He's there, in the basement. He's singing some ill-omened song as he dips a scalping of hair into a bath and then sews that onto what, his mask? It appears he has many pieces of girl's hair already sewn into this mask. And those jars on the shelf, are those IDs from girl's he's already menaced? When we cut back to the girls we see they've happened upon a shoe tree near the property. Because Marina is a city girl Angel explains that a shoe tree is simply a tree where those in the community have hung their old shoes. Over time the tree collects many pairs of shoes and thus is called a "shoe tree". They examine it for a bit before happening onto the old man's property. They arrive at the house, in the bitter cold, and discover no one has been there for years. They have to climb a set of old rickety stairs to get into the old farmhouse. They enter a large room and find it full of rat shit, dilapidated flooring and peeling walls. Touring the house with their last flashlight they decide to bed down for the night in the room they entered into. Laying out their sleeping bags they cozy up in the extreme cold. After a little girl talk they fall fast asleep. That's when the old man appears with rope in hand. He makes his move, tying the top of sleeping Marina's bag shut before moving to Angel's bag. In the commotion she wakes and begins to scream. The old man pushes her down into the bag and cinches off the top, securing her in her bag.
