To answer the original question, if my sub is gagged and bound, her safe word is repeated " ugh ugh ugh ugh" combined with shaking of her head.
I have her practice it as soon as the gag goes on, so I am positive to recognize it.

Sparrow's original ideas were good. Either a bell thing, or a vocal noise/tap sequence, like:

-clearing your throat
-tapping something with a part of your body
-grunts/groans/whines
-flexing something (like your knees, if that is a possibilty)

in a certain pattern/rhythm or a certain number of times.

Well, I always have my safe toy, even when I don't have my gag in, but when it comes to our tiny hidey hole, this won't be any good. So now we're going to have to come up with some kind of knock, that I can do by thumping my knees against the door if my hands are bound. A proper devised knock, so that he knows for definite if I'm in trouble, as opposed to thumping on the door to be annoying as part of the game.

And Puppy is joining in. This is part of the reason I did it, because I am sure there are more thn just me that need different methods to tell.
