A BDSM lent?

My sub pointed out it was lent and although not religous she likes the idea of giving something up but still wants it to be at least a little transformational. After discussion we agreed that lent without the religion ie the repentance/asceticism/self denial sounded quite adept to a bdsm setting so it was decided on creating a bdsm lent. Now setting tasks, punishments and the like I don't usually have a problem with but the transformational bit I struggled with. Now I did manage to create something although how transformational it remains to be seen.

So I'm asking has anybody ever done anything like this?
Any ideas on something powerful enough to be transformational?
Or am I just over complicating this ?
